This installation of TCS MC2P-MH or TCS DP5 Decoder is for HO Scale Kato EMD F40PH and was performed by TCS

Important Soldering Tip:
Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. It will damage it. Use only Rosin core solder approved for electronics use.
We recommend to use only Kester "44" rosin core, SN63PB37, .015" diameter, part number 24-6337-0007.
This can be ordered from Techni-Tool under Techni-Tool part number 488SO157

The MC2P-MH decoder with a medium harness is used for a very easy plug n play installation.  There is not enough room above the light board of the locomotive for a decoder with out modifying the roof weight but there is plenty of room along the sides of the chassis for the MC2P-MH decoder.   Kapton tape was used to hold the decoder and harness in place.

MC2P-MH decoder with medium harness. To order the decoder and harness together the part number is MC2P-MH.

As an alternative, we recommend using our TCS DP5 - 5 function drop-in decoder that will fit this engine perfectly and will give you option of extra light functions! Important note! IF using a DP2X or DP5 decoder place a piece of electrical tape over the screw head underneath the decoder. This screw will short out the decoder and damage it if this precaution is not done. See photo above, we used a piece of Kapton tape.

Other solder tips: When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more then a 1/64 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire then half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
