TCS M1 Decoder Installation for HO-Scale Hornby Deans Good 0-6-0 Tank Locomotive . It was performed by Bob Dunstone of Southland, New Zealand
This locomotive is a tender drive. The tender is completely full of motor, gearbox and cast chassis.
Fortunately all of the power pickups are on the locomotive. The power lead is just visible in the above photograph.
To remove the loco body, remove two screws, front behind the coupling and the screw which secures the tender drawbar to the Loco
Cut the pickup leads where they lie on the chassis casting. Connect the red and black leads to the wheel pickups and the orange and gray to the leads to the tender.
If you’re lucky you won’t need to alter CV29. The white, blue and yellow leads should be cut back and heat shrunk to prevent shorts. It is best to leave enough length on all of the leads to allow easy adaptation to a different installation,
The decoder leads should be heat shrunk for insulation and allow sufficient length to allow the positioning shown. This allows the decoder to slip vertically into the rear of the fire box.
Use black tape to secure the leads as some will be visible when the loco is reassembled.
The power feed to the tender is shown clearly here.
