Important Soldering Tip:
Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. It will damage it. Use only Rosin core solder approved for electronics use.
We recommend to use only Kester "44" rosin core, SN63PB37, .015" diameter, part number 24-6337-0007.
This can be ordered from Techni-Tool under Techni-Tool part number 488SO157

This locomotive has an eight pin NMRA socket to plug a decoder in. There is plenty of room to install a decoder. There are three different decoder installation pictures shown here. The DP2X, MC2 and T1 are shown. All are good options.

1. Remove the couplers from there pockets. 2. Remove the body. 3. Remove the jumper plug from the NMRA socket.         4. Install the decoder. 5. Refit the body and couplers and it is complete.

Remove the jumper in the NMRA socket shown in this picture.

Install the DP2X decoder as show below.  DP2X is a true plug n play installation.

An alternative is to use the MC2 decoder with a one inch harness or a short harness. This picture shows MC2 decoder with a one inch harness.

Another option is to use a T1 decoder with a short harness as shown below.

Other solder tips: When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more then a 1/64 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire then half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
