Important Soldering Tip:
Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. It will damage it. Use only Rosin core solder approved for electronics use.
We recommend to use only Kester "44" rosin core, SN63PB37, .015" diameter, part number 24-6337-0007.
This can be ordered from Techni-Tool under Techni-Tool part number 488SO157

This installation is for a HO-Scale Bachmann Shay ON30 using a TCS WOW101-Steam Decoder and KA3. This install was performed by TCS.

HO-Scale Bachmann Shay ON30 prior to WOW101-Steam Decoder, KA3 and UNIV-SH2-C installation.

To begin this installation, we must remove the coal tender. After lifting the small top knob at the top of the separate
box on the coal tender, locate and remove the two screws underneath the frame on either side as indicated in red above.

Next remove the third screw located at the center rear of the locomotive as highlighted and the coal tender is now free to lift off.

You will now see the lighting board, at this step, carefully remove the 3 screws as indicated above in red from the original lighting board.

With this board removed, identify, organize, trim and tin the wires as neccessary.

Using hot glue, mount the hard wired 28mm speaker inside of the UNIV-SH2-C housing and then mount this face down onto the frame. To fit this assembly, we found it neccessary to cut a small verticle notch into the housing to accomodate the coal tender screw receiver upon reinstallation.

To visually minimize the speaker assembly when completed, we painted the housing with black paint on the exposed side.

At this point, hard splice the track and motor wires into the ? pin connector.

With that complete, hard splice the KA3 to the speaker wires.

Plug in the WOW101 Steam decoder and using foam, double sided tape, install this and the KA3 into the top of the speaker aeembly.

*For this installation, we added and 1/4w 1K ohm resistor onto the annode side of the lighting leads as shown above.

As the space is minimal within the coal tender box, gently roll and lay the wires on top and secure with Kapton tape.
Reset the coal tender onto the frame, reinserting the bottom screws and place the ? box on top and your Bachmann Shay ON30 WOWsound equipped locomotive is ready to roll!

Other solder tips: When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more then a 1/64 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire then half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
