This installation of AK-MB1 and WOW 121 Diesel Decoder is for HO Scale Atlas C30-7 and was performed by TCS.

Important Soldering Tip:
Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. It will damage it. Use only Rosin core solder approved for electronics use.
We recommend to use only Kester "44" rosin core, SN63PB37, .015" diameter, part number 24-6337-0007.
This can be ordered from Techni-Tool under Techni-Tool part number 488SO157

Atlas C30-7 prior to installation.

Begin this installation, remove the pins found on each coupler and the coupler boxes.
Grasp the sides and each end of the shell to gently pull outwards and release it from the frame.

Atlas C30-7 with the shell removed. The original lighting board and lights will be removed for this installation and replaced with new components.

At this point, unclip the wires, taking note of their function as a reference to reinstall and remove the original lighting board and lights.

A view of the locomotive with the original lighting board removed. Trim and tin the wires as neccessary to solder them.

Clip the new AK-MB1 onto the frame and solder the track and motor leads in place according to the wiring diagram provided with your WOWKit.

With the 25 x 14mm speaker wired and inserted into the UNIV-SH1-C enclosure, using hot glue, mount this assembly to the shell as shown.
With a dab of hot glue, also mount the LED lights onto the tip of the light tube and solder the speaker and light wire leads to the motherboard.
The AK-MB1 motherboard has built in resistors for LED's so no external resistors are required.

Attach the WOW121 Diesel decoder to the RTR-MB1 motherboard.
In this installation, we used Kapton tape to secure the track lead wires to minimize movement and prevent shorts.
In order to keep the installation neat, prevent loose wires and shorts that might result, lace the wires into a bundle for reinstallation of the shell.
Reattach the cab and shell in reverse order. Install the coupler boxes and pins and your WOWSound equipped Atlas C30-7 locomotive in ready to roll!

Other solder tips: When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more then a 1/64 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire then half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
