An MC2 decoder was used for this installation because of its small size. The decoder easily fit on the frame of the loco. This made it much easier to hard wire the decoder in. Typically a larger size decoder would have to taped to the underside roof of the loco shell and all the wires would have to be much longer. That would make the installation a messy job and have higher potential of getting wires mixed up with the drive train. Dither value of 30 or 35 in CV57 helps this loco run very well.
